On August
23rd to 27th, CYN core member Jiang Ying attended the
2010 Mexico World Youth Conference. More than 200 NGO youth delegates from about
160 countries attended this conference. There are also government officials
from about 100 countries and UN agencies who participated in the conference. 12
topics such as health, education, youth participation, technology and
innovation, sustainable development, gender equality and so on were discussed
and experience and opinions were exchanged. 4 kinds of forums, which were NGO Forum,
Government Forum, Social Forum and Interactive Forum, were held together in
this great occasion.
On the
first two days, NGO youth delegates, according to their interests, were divided
into small groups based on the 12 topics. They participated actively and discussed
and exchanged their opinions and ideals. As a result of their hard work, the
Gunajuato Declaration draft has came out. On the following days, after rounds
of discussion by the government officials and youth delegates, the final
version of the Declaration was finished.
On the
NGO forum, core member Jiang Ying, representing CYN, has involved in four of
these topics—Health, Education, Youth Participation and International
Cooperation. She exchanged her ideas with other youth delegates and promoted
CYN’s activities, youth participation concept and Chinese peer education. On
the Interactive Forum, she, with other youth delegates, negotiated with
government officials on the Declaration and the youth rights.
Guanajuato
Declaration was published during the Year of Youth. It meets the youth’s needs
and protects the youth’s rights. In the conference, the youth have made their
voices heard. This Declaration would help to supervise and urge the national
governments and UN agencies to pay more attention on youth and give more
support to them.
